Mercedes Vs Toyota

A boring car?

From my experience, however short it may be, buying a car is a big decision. It involves taking into account a lot of factors. (plus I don't know if you have noticed, cars in Kenya are pretty expensive). Now, out of all these cars, no one ever thought, "hey, I want a boring car". I mean not anyone I know of at least. So having that in mind, I would fully recommend a boring car. (What?? The captain just recommended a boring car??? Signs of the end times maybe?? Could this be an LMD??). Nah, I believe strongly that cars should not be boring but this car, this car is a special type of boring.
The unit in our lab today for dissecting is the Honda CRV. Let us go through the numbers fast then get to what really matters. The unit was the third generation CRV with 2.4l Inline 4 engine. The engine in this car is good, and by good I mean it is just powered enough to get the job done. This is not the smallest car out there but it does not overcompensate for its weight with some ridiculous engine. You won't be setting any new land speed records with this but you will definitely get enough power to overtake a car or five (to fully understand this reference, click here).
I won't dwell on the engine so let me mention one or two more things about this car. It seats five comfortably, but you would be better off seating 4. The ride is comfortable, the back seats could be better but I am not complaining. The ride height is better than most (I mean it's an SUV right?) and will probably move around in more locations. I have to mention this, if you are getting this car, get the All wheel drive variant. I cannot stress this enough, DON'T buy a big car that drives two-wheels, please, just don't, I mean, it makes very little sense, just..... Okay?
On to the fuel consumption, this stat is pulled from the internet, I didn't actually test this so take it with a grain of salt and use it to make your own judgement. That said we are looking at around 10km/l, I will be the first to admit is not the greatest but listen, this is not a very cheap car so yea, that's just that.
So why do you even like this car? Is that the question you had? If it is, then you are in luck because I am going to respond to it. The CRV is a car that is solely focused on being a car, and a good one. Stick with me for a second and let's demystify this okay? Good. Here is what I mean, the car does not have the bells and whistles department represented anywhere, this car does not want to be flashy, this car only wants to get to the business of eating up miles and tackling offroad done. This car is that humble servant that needs fuel and oil to do everything well. (Not sure that analogy works but you get what I mean right). This car is perfectly balanced and perfectly poised. You get what you paid for and then some. Ladies and gentlemen I have no problem with this, I mean this car is as reliable as they come and will give you so much service so faithfully and it will do this every single time. I mean what is there to hate about the CRV? Help me understand because I really like this simplistic approach coupled with the consistency in delivering whenever it is called upon. In summary, this model of the CRV does not offer much beyond what it is supposed to, and sometimes, that is just all you need.
I was caught up in an argument and asked the car I would recommend between this model of the CRV and the model of the harrier I featured earlier. (click here  to check out the car I am talking about).
How about I leave that to you, which one would you rather have? the Harrier or the CRV? Let me know in the comments.
